PRICE INDEX--FEBRUARY 1997
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.3 percent before
seasonal adjustment in February to a level of 159.6 (1982-84=100), the Bureau of Labor
Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported. For the 12-month period ended in
February, the CPI-U increased 3.0 percent.

Seeks Comments On Benefits Valuation
The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) today asked for public comments on whether
it should amend its regulation covering the valuation of benefits in terminating pension
plans. At the same time, the agency announced the assumptions it will use to calculate the
1997 list of 50 companies with the largest underfunded pension plans.
