Alan Knapp is Director of Development and a member of the leadership team at the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI). He has been with EBRI since 2024.

He engages in business development and member acquisition through strategic engagement with their research agenda and insight into employee benefit policy, industry trends, and best practices. He previously founded Avison Strategies, LLC, a public affairs consulting firm focused on health, financial services, education and career development, and social impact policy. Prior to that, he served in senior government relations and public affairs roles for nonprofit industry and member associations and spent over 10 years on Capitol Hill as a Deputy Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, and Communications Director. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Government Relations Association and the board of directors for the Institute for Career Transitions. 

He earned his MPA in Public Policy from Michigan State University and his B.A. in Political Science from Western Michigan University.
